Changing the way YouTube counts views

Kathmandu. Google-owned video streaming platform YouTube is set to make a major change in the way it counts ‘views’ of public videos. Starting August 24, 2026, a new system will be implemented that will count a view from the first frame as soon as the video is played. This rule will apply to all formats, including not just Shorts, but also long-form videos, podcasts, and live streams.
